Understanding and Incorporating the Chakra System Into Your Massage (Sunday)

What are chakras? In Sanskrit, the word “chakra” means “disk” or “wheel” and refers to the energy centers in your body. These wheels or disks of spinning energy each correspond to certain nerve bundles, organs or glands in the particular area in which they're located. As such, they not only affect the physical functionality of that region but also may influence an individual's emotional and spiritual state. To function at their best, your chakras need to stay open, or balanced. Chakras have only recently become more well-known, with the growth in popularity of yoga and New Age philosophies in general. They are a complex and ancient energy system that originated in India. They were first mentioned in the Vedas, ancient sacred texts of spiritual knowledge dating from 1500 to 1000 BC.

The 7 chakras are the main energy centers of the human body and when they are completely open, we will feel a harmonious union of the spirit, mind, and body. Unblocking the chakras means balancing them to align in such a way that the energy flows through in every way. Patients will feel a deep sense of well being and parasympathetic nervous system activation when the chakras are balanced and open.

In this class, you will learn the theory and the mapping of the chakra system. We will learn how to parallel dermatome pathways and chakra alignment with hands on practice for deep relaxation and nervous system regulation by incorporating the understanding of the seven main chakras. You will utilize traditional Swedish massage techniques in new directional ways to bring attention to soft tissue structures and energy pathways surrounding the seven chakras.

What to Bring: Set of sheets, face cradle cover, bolster or pillow. Should you choose to wear a mask, you may wear whichever style you want to wear. Wear loose-fitting clothing. Please leave everything not needed for class in your vehicle or at home. Use a large tote bag (think Ikea or a beach tote) or suitcase to contain your "what to bring items".
