Product Description

Instructor: Karen Clay LMT; NCBTMB #451271-10.

Movement is essential to life. The most potent and universal movement occurs in the primary flow of exchange between ourselves and our environment. It's rhythm moves everything.

Breath is a means of reaching into our internal landscape to create currents of information, nourishment, revitalization, and healing. There is nothing more distinctly yours than your breathing rhythm. It is as intimate as your signature, or your fingerprints.

When we are stuck or afraid, we freeze, causing the cycles of open/close, act/rest, give/receive to become interrupted. The most powerful way to settle ourselves is to join the fundamental rhythm of breathing in/out once again. This slows the system and resets our fight/flight mechanisms.

  • Breath can reach into places otherwise not accessible to the hand.
  • Breath can vibrate, hydrate and loosen restrictions in both micro and macro applications.
  • This profound entry way can help to create a state change in yourself and others.

Come away with Somatic Breathwork techniques to increase the effectiveness of your hands-on work.

  • Expand your conception of "breath" to include not only its biological underpinnings, but also its potent and universal scope.
  • Understand the anatomical and biochemical features of the breathing process.
  • Learn how to use Breathwork practices to open the system, create change and enhance your own and your clients' access to well-being.
  • Learn breath patterns to increase the scope and versatility of the breath.

Learning experiences include: learning breath techniques which can be integrated into a hands-on session, assessment tools and a brief review of the anatomical features of breathing.

Students will be able to:

  • Observe the breath wave in a client and assess their breath restrictions.
  • List the myofasciae employed in diaphragmatic and costal breathing.
  • Teach a Breathwork exercise to a client.

What to Wear: Please wear loose fitting clothing, suitable for movement, in layers for warmth or coolness.

Needed Supplies:

  • A mat (yoga or camping), blanket or carpet to lie down on.
  • Firm blanket to make into a roll (very important for movement work).

Computer/Camera Setup: This is a class that involves movement while on a mat on the floor -- make sure you have enough space for your arms to be outspread while laying down. Please have your computer placed in an area that you can see the screen while you are on your mat in a seated or supine position and such that the teacher can see you on the screen. Please have a yoga mat, camping mat or blanket available for lying down on if you do not have a carpeted floor. If you have a bright light source, especially a window, near your computer, please make sure that the light is behind your computer, and not behind you.  Using a phone in place of a camera will not work for this class, you must have a computer of some sort with camera and microphone.
