Thursday Morning -- Facial Fusion Massage

The face is very often a neglected element in the scheme of a full body massage. Learn and experience a blend of facial massage techniques that are not only relaxing and rejuvenating, but beneficial for reducing the effects of stress, tension and aging that manifest in the appearance and conditions of the face.

Strokes designed to increase the circulation of blood and lymph in the face also work to remove excess fluids and waste products, making the face look more bright and vibrant. Facelift massage techniques work against gravity to tone weak muscles and strengthen the links between the skin and muscle, resulting in tighter facial contours. The stimulation of key pressure points of the face calm the spirit, relieve anxiety and benefit sinus problems, tension headaches, nosebleeds, twitching eyelids and facial paralysis. Relaxation strokes of various depths and styles further relieve tension in the face and enhance the overall experience for the client. This combination of techniques can be added in full or part to a full body massage session or can be advertised as a stand-alone service as well.

This is a hands-on workshop with demonstration and practice and is suitable for massage therapists, estheticians and advanced massage therapy students.

Note:  This class contains different material than the "Chinese Facial Massage with TMJ Techniques" class. Combining techniques of both Chinese Facial Massage and Facial Fusion Massage allows therapists to offer their clients a more customized facial massage. Although each class offers its own facial massage treatment plan, segments from each can be blended into a separate tailor-made treatment that can differ between clients based on their needs.

What to Bring: Set of sheets, bolster/pillow, a hand mirror, 4 washcloths, 1 hand towel, a headband to hold hair back from face, 2 medium size bowls (about 1.5 qt.) to soak washcloths, and a thermal carafe for hot water; as well as 2 facemasks (surgical masks, N95 respirators or KN95 respirators). Please do not wear makeup to class. Contact wearers will preferably need to remove their contacts when receiving, or wear glasses during the class. Use a large tote bag or suitcase to contain your "what to bring items".

Thursday Afternoon -- The Best of Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is based on the ancient Indian healing system of Ayurveda and has been practiced for over a thousand years. This course focuses on scalp and face techniques and includes over 30 of the most useful and beneficial strokes that Indian Head Massage has to offer. The massage is calming yet revitalizing and combines effleurage, stroking, kneading, friction, percussion and pressure point techniques. It supports the nervous system by alleviating stress, encouraging the elimination of toxins and increasing oxygen uptake in tissues. Indian Head Massage encourages deep relaxation and can help eyestrain and headaches. It boosts hair health, improves concentration by enhancing blood flow, calms the mind and eases emotional stress.

Participants learn not only the best of traditional seated Indian Head Massage techniques, but also how to adapt the strokes to every day table work. Oil is recommended but optional for the scalp massage. The instructor includes organic Ayurvedic herbal scalp oils from Solavedi.

What to Bring: Set of sheets and bolster/pillow; as well as 2 facemasks (surgical masks, N95 respirators or KN95 respirators). Please have clean hair and use no hair products on the day of the class. Dress comfortably. For the table segment it's best to bring a tank top or spa wrap to change into. Use a large tote bag (think Ikea or a beach tote) or suitcase to contain your "what to bring items".
