Saturday Morning -- The Best of Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is based on the ancient Indian healing system of Ayurveda and has been practiced for over a thousand years. This course focuses on scalp and face techniques and includes over 30 of the most useful and beneficial strokes that Indian Head Massage has to offer. The massage is calming yet revitalizing and combines effleurage, stroking, kneading, friction, percussion and pressure point techniques. It supports the nervous system by alleviating stress, encouraging the elimination of toxins and increasing oxygen uptake in tissues. Indian Head Massage encourages deep relaxation and can help eyestrain and headaches. It boosts hair health, improves concentration by enhancing blood flow, calms the mind and eases emotional stress.

Participants learn not only the best of traditional seated Indian Head Massage techniques, but also how to adapt the strokes to every day table work. Oil is recommended but optional for the scalp massage. The instructor includes organic Ayurvedic herbal scalp oils from Solavedi.

What to Bring: Set of sheets and bolster/pillow; as well as 2 facemasks (surgical masks, N95 respirators or KN95 respirators). Please have clean hair and use no hair products on the day of the class. Dress comfortably. For the table segment it's best to bring a tank top or spa wrap to change into. Use a large tote bag (think Ikea or a beach tote) or suitcase to contain your "what to bring items".

Saturday Afternoon -- Treating the Feet: Turning Tired Feet Into Happy Feet

Feet function as the body’s shock absorbers and are many times the hardest worked of all body parts. They are what hold our weight up all day long, and the longer we walk or stand, the more tired they become. When walking, there are times the pressure on the feet exceeds the body weight and when running, it can be 3 or 4 times the body weight. Unfortunately, many of our clients experience foot fatigue on a regular basis and a one hour massage session does not allow us enough time to pamper and fully address the issues of the feet.

This specialized foot treatment requires a minimum of 30 minutes to perform and can extend up to an hour to fit the needs of the client. It is a 4-part treatment employing 4 different products and massage therapies as follows: 1) foot soak with compression, 2) circular effleurage with abrasives, 3) pressure point therapy with foot mask and 4) rejuvenating foot massage with lotion. The client is comfortably seated during the entire process. It can be offered as an add-on service to a full body massage or it can be a focused session on its own. Add it to your menu of services to increase your income and to further service your clients.

What to Bring: 1 bath towel, 3 hand towels, 1 coffee carafe or pitcher, 1 pair of latex or vinyl gloves (optional), pillow/bolster and a pair of clean socks to wear after the treatment. Please wear loose pants that can be pulled or rolled up to the knees (or a pair of shorts); as well as 2 facemasks (surgical masks, N95 respirators or KN95 respirators). Use a large tote bag or suitcase to contain your "what to bring items".

Teacher Masking Policy For This Class: This is a hybrid version of our new masking policy, there are different masking requirements for the lecture and non-lecture portions of class.

  • Lecture: During the opening portion of class, during lecture, masking is optional, each person can choose to wear a mask, or not.
  • Technique/Demo/Practical: Masking is required during the non-lecture portion of class when doing technique, watching a demo, or doing any close contact practicals. Please wear a surgical mask, N95 respirator or KN95 respirator -- choose what works best for you among these options. Please bring 2 masks or respirators for each day of class, you should only need one per day, but one is a backup just in case. For full details about our masking policy, please click HERE.
