Health equity is about all people being able to attain their full health potential. So WHY do we as LMTs have to talk about this and take this class? Sadly, far too many clients have received inequitable care from all manner of providers (yes, including LMTs). This inequitable care has resulted in diminished health outcomes, any manner of trauma (macro to micro) and somato-emotional distress, to name a few. In this course we will explore expressions of implicit bias that have adversely impacted client care. Opportunity is provided to consider what implicit biases we may knowingly or unknowingly be expressing, to better restrict or eliminate the impact of said biases. In doing so we better serve our clients in a more equitable way. The class format involves a blend of lecture, self-reflection, and group discussion. Consideration will be given to optimize positive equitable health care outcomes in the practice of massage.
This class satisfies WA's health equity CE requirement.
