ZY.) Passive Stretching, Table Thai & More: Upper & Lower Body (Seattle August 11-12, 2018)

Product Description

Instructor: Kay Rynerson, LMT; NCBTMB 450656-08

In the this class, you will learn passive stretches for every part of the client's upper body (on Saturday) and lower body (on Sunday) in the supine, side lying and prone positions on the massage table. These stretches can be done with the client draped or fully clothed. You will learn specific treatment modalities for plantar fasciitis and explore treatments for low back pain and range-of-motion issues for the hips. Techniques include Table Thai, the 30-second stretch, fascial release and the saltwater taffy method.

These stretches, which the instructor has collected and field-tested since 1988, are adapted from many diverse modalities including Traditional Massage of Thailand (which she has taught and practiced for many years). Although Thai massage is traditionally done on a mat on the floor with the recipient fully clothed, Table Thai is performed with the client on the table and the practitioner standing on the floor at all times.

Each day's class starts with a gentle, thorough and safe self-stretching routine. Many of these self-stretches are adapted from the moves you will be doing on the massage table. As you stretch, the instructor will lead a verbal review of anatomy so you can visualize exactly what you are stretching.

Each therapist will receive a handout with full text and professional photographs so they won't need to take any notes during class.

What to Bring: Two fitted bottom sheets, two pillow cases, a fluffy pillow, and two face cradle covers. A bolster is helpful as well. Please wear loose, stretchy clothing with no zippers, buttons or belts. Long sweat pants work well, as do stretch pants. Cotton or cotton blends work better than shiny synthetics. Layers are good.

What participants have said about these classes:
  • "Not only did I gain some new massage skills, meet some awesome new friends, and have fun doing it, I booked two new clients before I even got home!" - Brian D.
  • "I have had an a-ha moment with a client who sprained her ankle six weeks before. I used the three minute stretch with plantar flex and dorsiflex and her quote " It was a miracle!" - Cathy G.
  • "I have already used a few of the stretches you taught with my clients yesterday. One client especially liked the knee push for the S-I joint and the stretching of the arms over the head while supine. It was fun to pick and choose stretches to suit what was going on with each of them. I feel like my massage "toolbox" is overflowing now!" - Susan M.
