ZW.) Myofascial Balancing--Upper Extremity Joint Decompression & Myofascial Techniques for the Upper Body: Both Classes (Seattle June 5-6, 2021)

Product Description

Instructor: Richard Polishuk, LMT, assisted by Lauren Christman, LMT; NCBTMB #450788-08

Day 1 Saturday -- Myofascial Balancing: Joint Decompression for the Upper Extremities

About this Class: Unbalanced joints become "crooked" and compressed simultaneously. As the bones lose their ability to gracefully move around each other, joint dysfunction accelerates. In this course, we focus on balancing and decompressing the joints of the arms, wrists and hands. Ignore them at your peril! Along the way, we discuss common injuries and conditions related to balance in the region, such as shoulder impingement, epicondylitis, CTS, TOS and more. This class includes:

  • Detailed weight-bearing palpation/evaluation of upper body alignment
  • Specific joint decompression and balancing of the sternoclavicular, A-C, glenohumeral (shoulder), elbow, wrist, and hand joints

Day 2 Sunday -- Myofascial Balancing: Myofascial Techniques for the Upper Body

About this Class: One of the central aspects of Myofascial Balancing is clarifying the relationships between segmental alignment and imbalances in tissue mobility. Using weight-bearing palpation and palpation at the table, we analyze and correct these imbalances. This class is highly directed at the "big picture" of postural pattern. The Myofascial Balancing techniques use just enough force to effectively mobilize restrictions, so the work is easy to do and to receive.  The class includes:

  • Detailed weight-bearing palpation/evaluation of upper body alignment
  • Palpation at the table to identify specific alignment/mobility imbalances
  • Assessment-driven myofascial techniques to balance upper body soft tissue tracts

About the Myofascial Balancing Classes: Myofascial Balancing is a method of tissue manipulation designed to optimize balance in the position and mobility of the body. There are 3 related but distinct categories of technique: balancing soft tissue, balancing joints, and balancing the movement of bones through the deepest layers of soft tissue. Using these three tools, we work anywhere restrictions and imbalances are found—in any deep or superficial layer. The techniques we use are gentle and unlubricated, so that the work can be done through clothing when desired.

The ongoing interplay between assessment and treatment is the heart of this method. We use standing palpation to analyze segmental alignment and relate it to fascial imbalances. Then, local palpation at the table helps us precisely orient treatment to the shape and direction of restrictions. Frequent reevaluation during treatment helps us know that we are on track, and leads to a seamless treatment experience for the client.

The material has been developed by teachers experienced in the world of structural bodywork, including Structural Integration and Aston-Patterning. We have experience teaching to both newly-licensed therapists and experienced massage and structural bodyworkers.

What to Bring: Set of sheets; face cradle cover; pillow or bolster; wear loose clothing. For PPE, bring 2 facemasks per day (disposable surgical mask or N95/KN95 respirator – only one should be required per day, the extra is back-up), eye protection and clothing protection (apron, smock or 2 sets of scrubs required per day) are required. For information on PPE items and preparing for class, please click HERE.

Travel Restriction:  At this time, anyone who is attending classes must reside in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.  Anyone traveling from outside of these states must self-isolate themselves locally for 14 days prior to class if they want to attend.  We apologize, but this is a Governor issued requirement while counties are in Phase 2 of Washington's Safe Start program. We will remove this restriction when we are allowed to.

Registration Options: We are offering these 2 classes at a discounted group rate if you register for both classes at once, versus taking each individual class. If you would like to register for just one or both days, please click on the following links to register, otherwise continue on to register both classes.
