S.) Lymphatic Facilitation for Traumatic Edema (October 29-31, 2010)

Detailed Description
Brief Description
Specifications

Lymphatic Facilitation (LF) is one of the most valuable therapeutic tools for all manual therapists. It is an abbreviated form of lymphtic massage specifically designed to reduce the type of edema a manual therapist is most likely to see; traumatic edema associated with sprains, strains, hematomas, and chronic pain "-itis" syndromes. Rather than going through a year long certificate program to learn the comprehensive decongestive skills required for work with lymphedema this class teaches you the LF skills that you will use with all of your clients to reduce their pain and swelling, improve ROM, and decrease the likelyhood of soreness after extensive deep tissue work. The class is a 70-30 balance between hands-on practice and theory where you will learn:

  • The key structural components of the lymphatic system they never talked about in school.
  • The physiologic mechanisms that create edema uptake and influence lymph flow.
  • The three different types of edema and how to identify each, as well as the indications and contraindications for various manual therapies in each.
  • Effective and safe application of the Lymphatic Facilitation strokes, and how to integrate them with other standard treatment practices.
  • Three stages of LF treatments and the specific treatment protocols for traumatic edema in both upper and lower body conditions.
