In this class, you will learn the definition of clinical sports massage. The benefits, effects, and goals of clinical sports massage are described and there is a brief review of assessment principles and the healing cycle. The hands-on portion of the class teaches you several important neuromuscular and myofascial techniques--including Deep Transverse Friction (DTF) use--that are then combined and integrated into basic preventive sports massage routines for both upper and lower body. All of the techniques from this class will easily translate to your clinical practice and help you develop more effective treatments for all of your active clients.
Upon completion of this class you will be able to:
- List the benefits and effects of sports massage.
- Name the three major categories of sports massage and explain the goals and techniques of each.
- Demonstrate several muscle specific myofascial and neuromuscular techniques, including Deep Transverse Friction for common tendinopathies (such as with tendonitis and tendonosis).
- Efficiently integrate these techniques in the performance of both upper and lower body preventive sports massage routines.
