Level II addresses health impairments common to the aging with specific techniques for each condition, including hospice work. Wheel chair and massage in different settings are demonstrated using proper body mechanics.
The Workshop features these topics:
- In depth information on the most common age-related health problems and how to work specifically with each, as well as cautions and contraindications.
- Review of associated medical terminology.
- Cautions in the positioning of challenged clients in hospital beds, standard beds, wheelchairs, and geriatric chairs.
- Specific approaches to massaging people challenged with stroke, diabetes, Parkinson's, dementia/Alzheimer, arthritis and those who may be wheelchair or bed bound.
After the workshop, you will be able to:
- se the proper techniques to use while working under the direction of the prescribing physician but without the need for direct supervision.
- Know how to work with clients who have various degrees of age-related health and mobility problems.
- Be familiar with working in an Assisted Living Facility or Nursing Home.
There are student clinics on the second and third day, where students work with older volunteer models. Students are encouraged to coordinate their own model when possible. (Details will be provided shortly after registration via email.)
